Demeter is an attorney practicing Family Law.
11th floor in the GC building - Law Office and Law Library & Apartment
Cottage in outskirts of Athens
General Overview: After leaving Olympus, Demeter decided to obtain her Juris Doctorate to practice family law for both mortals and immortals. While she does enjoy the finer things of clothes and gourmet food, she often finds herself seeking solitude at her cottage, but loves visits from her beautiful daughter, Persephone. She enjoys living among the mortals, especially driving her car and tending to her garden, to ground her back to earth.
Deity Nicknames: Demi, Dem
Likes: The smell of petrichor, seeing plants blossom, high-fashion, soft blankets, aged wine
Dislikes: Master-manipulators, pollution, know-it-alls
Flaws / Weaknesses
Secluded. Demeter likes to be alone and have her privacy and peace. This tendency to isolate herself and seek seclusion makes it hard to get to know her, and she often misses out on things happening in the GC when she is off by herself.
Type A. Demeter has a tendency to plan everything to the last detail to the extent of not going with the flow or being spontaneous. This holds her back from taking action in the moment because she has to weigh all the options before she makes a move.
Overprotective. Demeter has long had a tendency to be overprotective of her daughter, Persephone. It has gotten better over the millennia, but when Persephone is stressed, the mother hen instinct kicks in and can make Demeter almost smothering with care and concern for her child.
Skills / Abilities
Immortality. Technically immortal. Immune to the effects of aging, cannot die by any conventional means, and is immune to all known mortal diseases and infections. As a deity, they are able to teleport, or "pop" anywhere in the mortal plane with a few exceptions, the God Floors of the GC HQ are mystically protected, so no teleporting to or in between them, anything on the non-mortal plane, i.e., the Underworld, Atlantis, and the Void, are non-accessible without a guide.
Mother Tongue. As the bridge between the mortal world and the divine, they speak all languages mortals do, even the long dead ones.
Green Tongue. Demeter can speak to living plants as though they were people, hear and understand what they have seen and have said. Every living thing rooted in soil is her eyes and her ears and can communicate information.
Lifegiver. Demeter has the ability to make plants grow at any rate she wishes. This power is more intense if the plants are actual food crops.
Withering. Demeter has the ability to draw life from plants (vampire-like), causing their physical mass to wither. This is not a decaying process, but more an instantaneous "husking." This power is combined with the use of the Sickle (see Magical Artifacts, below).
Power of Persuasion. As the Goddess of Sacred Law, Demeter has the ability to influence immortals and mortals alike. Using language and rhetoric, Demeter can influence and convince others to take a right course of action, or even to see her side in an argument or negotiation. This power works through Demeter being able to sense what mental or emotional blocks the person has that prevents them from aligning with the right action or with her stance. Then she utilizes this information and her litigation skills to talk them around to her way of seeing things.
Normal Daily Wear: When she is in the courtroom, she prefers wearing the highest quality of business attire in the best name-brand heels. These will be tailored to her exact measurements.
Alternate Wear: When at home or attending her garden, she still prefers high quality, comfy name-brand clothes. She loves wearing the softest, loose sweaters and yoga pants or jeans.
Cornucopia of Plenty. This magical artifact allows her to produce an overflowing amount of food in a matter of seconds. This artifact has to rest for three days after it has been used before being used again.
Sickle of Harvest. The sickle draws from the power of the land and consumes the life essence of plants and empowers Demeter with a temporary shield of protection.
Staff of Spring. The Staff of Spring commands nature to come to her aid, which includes both plants and animals. By tapping it on the ground in a heartbeat pattern (thud-THUD), it sends out a call for everything living to come to her assistance.
Emerald of Brightness. Demeter wears this special emerald stone in a necklace. When activated, the jewel begins to glow golden with the energy of stored sunlight, radiating light for a range of 20 feet. The gem must occasionally be left in sunlight to charge, but gets most of its charge from daily wear by Demeter.
Demeter is the 2nd born child of the Titans, Kronus and Rhea. She is the Goddess of the Harvest and Grain, Sacred Law and Fertility of the Earth. She has the power to feed the world or starve them into submission. She is the mother of Persephone, abducted wife of Hades. Each winter, she mourns the loss of her child to the Underworld.
Ahhh yes, I am back, my loves! I know I have been missing for a while, in which I will be able to fill you in about soon. I know I took in a lot of clientele for the GC law office and just kinda left… but you know, it was that time of year that I just needed to get out into nature and stretch my legs for a while.
I am sure my children will be most pleased with my return, along with my very devoted executive assistant, Aegis. I do hope Dionysus comes by the OA building soon to bring me some of his fine wine since as you know, I do have a taste for the finer things in life.
So my beautiful mortals, you shall hear more from me soon!
