Skills / Abilities
Immortality. Technically immortal. Immune to the effects of aging, cannot die by any conventional means, and is immune to all known mortal diseases and infections. As a deity, they are able to teleport, or "pop" anywhere in the mortal plane with a few exceptions, the God Floors of the GC HQ are mystically protected, so no teleporting to or in between them, anything on the non-mortal plane, i.e., the Underworld, Atlantis, and the Void, are non-accessible without a guide.
Mother Tongue. As the bridge between the mortal world and the divine, they speak all languages mortals do, even the long dead ones.
MacGyvering. Hermes is a gifted intellect who uses improvised engineering skills and cobbled-together ingenuity to solve problems, devise unmatched pranks, or devise world-changing inventions.
Quantum Teleportation. As messenger for the deities, he is able to transport himself beyond obstacles to include: locked doors, walls, and even realm barriers. This provides him the ability to deliver mail, packages, or the dead where they need to go.
Bardic Persuasion. In addition to being a skilled musician, Hermes can sing a quite charming tune. Those who here Hermes sing treat him like a rockstar. This ranges from simple adoration to complete willingness to perform whatever he desires.
Supernatural Thievery. As the God of Thieves, Hermes can steal things without any direct physical contact and without alerting others to the action. He can also disarm or deactivate traps and locks telekineticlly.
Personal Attire
Normal Daily Wear: Hermes traditionally wore a traveler’s broad-brimmed hat and sandals. However, he now wears a brown half-sleeve industrial work shirt with matching walking shorts and patrol cap, similar to military hats. Embroidered on the shirt and hat is the Hermes Mail logo.
Magical Artifacts/Weapons
Golden V – In the modern age, the songs of bards accompanied by lyres are no longer in style. Hermes has ditched his golden lyre and built an electric guitar crafted from olive and mahogany. The hardware is constructed from adamantite and plated with gold. A power ballad played on this guitar can cause animals to pause and sway rhythmically while listening. Mortals can be driven to tears or inspired to build things beyond their normal comprehension. It, also, is used to summon Charon to the edges of the Styx. Alternately, an aggressive guitar solo can inspire a listener to overcome adversity, develop a sense of unity, or elevate performance.
Wings 2.0 High-Top Athletic Shoes – An upgrade to the Talaria (winged sandals). These premium leather shoes have three-stripe branding and ethereal wings that extend beyond the heel– allowing for flight and super speed. While wearing these shoes, running speed has been clocked at over 1 mile per second or 3600 miles per hour. This is roughly 4.6 times the speed of sound. Average flying speed is just less than the speed of light (approximately 186 thousand miles per second). However, the wearer is capable of achieving warp speed (over 670 million miles per hour) for very brief periods of time.
Caduceus – This stylus pen, crafted from olive wood, is a miniaturized version of Hermes original staff with two fighting serpents intertwined on the shaft and whimsical wings at the top. This pen is not only good for punching in delivery information on his tablet, but also has several magical powers. With a touch from the caduceus, mortals can be caused to fall asleep or awaken. It can cure most diseases and with great concentration may even raise the dead. If Hermes wills it, the pen can also transmute any inorganic substance into gold.
Historical Synopsis
Hermes is a Greek messenger god, swift and cunning, portrayed with winged feet, wearing a winged helmet and carrying a caduceus, a serpent-entwined, magic wand that symbolizes spiritual illumination. Hermes also was a patron god of Magic, using his caduceus to cast spells. As god of travelers, his image was erected at Crossroads; he was charged with escorting the souls of the dead to the underworld. The dog is associated with Hermes for its intelligence and devotion.
Hermes was born of Zeus and Maia, daughter of Atlas. He was a shrewd thief from his earliest hours. Before nightfall on his first day of life, he stole most of Apollo’s heifers. Zeus made him return the heifers. In contrition, Hermes invented the lyre and gave it to Apollo. Hermes continued to play malicious tricks but also was generous in his protection of others: for instance, he saved Odysseus from the magical spells of Circe.[1]
I am happy, I am gay, I come each and every day, I’m, your, mailman. I knock your knockers, I ring your bell, Don’t you think that I am swell, I’m, your, mailman. I can come, in any kind of weather. Don’t you know my bag is made of leather I don’t mess with doors or locks, I just shove it in your box, I’m, your, mailman.
