Panacea is Behaving Badly

Aaahhhh…that was such a mortal line! They thrive on contrast: “Only the fearful can know the value of courage.” Ulysses is such a great movie! I wonder if it’s true?

Circe fears nothing. Does this mean she doesn’t know courage? I guess not, when she’s got nothing to compare it to.

Just look at Ulysses’ confidence when she approaches him with the idea of immortality He doesn’t even twitch. I don’t know which one is the bigger badass. You know, maybe I should go to the party as Ulysses. Nah…his outfit is lame!

I think I’ve seen enough. I am SO jealous of Circe! She gets her own island, takes the time to master her craft, and now she has the ability to turn humans into animals and vice versa! How stinkin’ cool is that? She doesn’t kill the people; she just alters their physical nature to match their emotional one. Well, there was that one time she murdered her husband…but it was just that one time!

Anyway, I think I need to get to work on conjuring up an incantation so that Panacea is no longer recognizable. If I’m quick about it, I can get a bit of sleep and finish my costume tomorrow.

But where do I begin? Duh; the internet! So what do you suppose Google has to offer?

Well, what do you know! Two websites right off the top: “How to write incantations.” But neither of them have examples, just instructions. Know what you want, no less than four lines, rhythmic like a poem and get this: don’t use words that don’t feel right or “roll off your tongue.” Hmmmmm…

Ok, what do I want? I want to be Circe. What do I know about her? She is the Goddess of Magic. Maybe I should be more specific: she’s an Enchantress. Oh brother, does any of this even matter? I just want to be her. I want to be her! I want to be the enchanting Circe! Think, think, think….

How would Circe think?

Banished to Aeaea,
I summon thee.
Daughter of Helios,
I wish to be.
With the dawn of the morning,
The change will begin.
By the time of the party,
Circe’s embodied within.

Oh hell yeah!

Banished to Aeaea,
I summon thee.
Daughter of Helios,
I wish to be.
With the dawn of the morning,
The change will begin.
By the time of the party,
Circe’s embodied within.

I like it! Actually, just saying this, I swear I can feel something happening. Yeah, right. I think Gwen was right: maybe I am a tad excitable. Then again, I do feel a bit off. I think I’ll lay down and get…some… sleeeeep…

Hey! What the heck happened?! All I did was lay down, and now I’m in one of my father’s temples! Hello? Is there anyone here?

“Hello, Panacea!”

“Circe? What are you doing here? What’s going on? Is this real?”

“Panacea, I summoned you, so that we might discuss something with you.”

“Who’s we?”

“Your father and I. Oh, and speaking of which, here he comes now! Hello, Asclepius!”

“Greetings, Goddesses. Panacea, it’s been a long time.”

“Hello, Father.”

“So, Circe, what is this all about?”

“Asclepius, Zeus summoned a number of Gods and Goddesses to the 21st century mortal world. His expectation was that each of them find work and a way to live among them. It seems, Panacea has had a difficult time with this task. To put it bluntly, she has been behaving badly and must be sacrificed as an example to the other Gods.”

“I must be what?”

“Asclepius. On behalf of the Gods, we ask for your understanding.”

“Circe! This has to be a joke! Where’s Gwen? Did she put you up to this? That damn Calaveras!”

“Circe, I understand. Since childhood, my daughter has had a difficult time with being a demi-goddess. It seems her default mode is being mortal, which happens when her emotions get the best of her.”

“Well…”

“Wait a minute! Don’t I have a say in this? What if I promise to…”

“Panacea, my farm, it is growing,
One goat at a time.
Which is an advancement
From turning men into swine.”

“NOOOOO! Don’t say it again! Wake up, wake up, I must wake up!!”

“Panacea, my farm, it is growing,…”

Wake up! Wake up…wake…oh thank God…I’m home!

It’s after twelve! I must have been tired! Oh well, I still need a cup of coffee before I get dressed up. I believe I have everything I need for this costume.

I can’t seem to shake that silly little incantation about the goat. How did it go? I think it was…

Panacea, my farm, it is growing,
One goat at a time.
Which is an advancement,
From turning men into swine.

Circe’s raising goats. Ha! Maybe I should borrow one from my friend, Lucy. I really want everyone to see me as Circe! I’ll shoot her a text and ask if I can even do that.

It’s weird how this poem won’t go away. I bet if I turn on some music I can drown it…

Alright! Lucy said yes! Hmmm…I wonder if they’re hard to handle. Oh well, I’ll find out soon enough.

The important question is; how do I look?

Damn, girl! If I didn’t know better, I’d swear you were Circe!

Time? Shit…I’m running late. So, Lucy is going to the party, too. I think I’ll see if she minds bringing the goat with her, and I’ll just grab it from her before we go in.

Food, drinks…am I supposed to bring anything? I’ll take a couple bottles of wine with me. OH! I almost forgot! Circe always carries a potion. What should I do? I know! I’ll blend a little concoction using ayahuasca and salvia. I say, local herbs are good enough! It’s only for the sacrificial goat!

Look at me! I am Circe!

Panacea, my farm, it is growing,
One goat at a time.
Which is an advancement,
From turning men into swine.

I had to say it one more time. Oh wow! Lucy says she’s already on her way, and it’s not a problem to bring the goat. Better run! Thank goodness, it’s not far!

There she is; right on time and past me. Too funny! I’ll follow and park right behind her!

“Hey Lucy! Thank you so much for bringing my little Panacea!”

“Your what? You’re naming the goat Panacea?”

“I am, and from now on, that’s Circe to you.”
