Professions

Themis does not have an official job title, but she is acting as a private investigator and wannabe detective who is investigating a series of murders occurring in the city she lives in. She works alongside a journalist who dreams of becoming an investigative reporter. Together, the duo will stop at nothing to uncover the sinister nature of these crimes and how they’re all connected.

Residence

Themis primarily lives in a crummy apartment in an undisclosed city. She doesn't care too much for unnecessary frills, so her apartment serves as a home base for her to keep track of clues she discovers, persons of interests, and any relevant information pertaining to her investigation. Themis also has a floor to herself in the God Complex, but she rarely spends any time there.

Personal Information

General Overview: While searching for her purpose to become relevant to the mortals again, Themis finds herself in the middle of a large, crime-ridden city. Having once been the voice of good counsel to the Olympians, she is horrified by the way mortals govern themselves. Between a corrupted justice system and little to no solace being available for victims and their families, Themis finds her purpose to help mortals that have been the victim of violent crimes. She serves as a voice for law, morality, and empathy.

Deity Nicknames: None

Likes: Alcohol, food, true crime, intelligence, learning new things

Dislikes: Dishonesty, injustice

Flaws/Weaknesses

Cynical. Themis has the ability to always know when someone is lying. Because of this, she sees how often others are dishonest to her and others. She finds it extremely difficult to be in the moment and open up to anybody, in fear that they will eventually lie to her. Themis is distrustful of others and sometimes expects only the worst from people.

Hedonistic. Themis is a titan, which means that she over indulges in just about anything just for her to be able to feel it. It takes a lot of alcohol to get her drunk and an equal amount of food to make her full. She uses this as an excuse to overdo it in a variety of earthly pleasures - drinking, smoking, sex, you name it. She doesn’t know when to say when and struggles with addiction to many of her vices.

Reckless. Themis’s inherent nihilism makes it difficult for her to gauge risk.

No Filter. Themis values the truth above all else, which makes her say things that would get “filtered out” by mortals. She has no problem being painfully honest to anyone she meets.

Skills / Abilities

Immortality. Technically immortal. Immune to the effects of aging, cannot die by any conventional means, and is immune to all known mortal diseases and infections. As a deity, they are able to teleport, or "pop" anywhere in the mortal plane with a few exceptions, the God Floors of the GC HQ are mystically protected, so no teleporting to or in between them, anything on the non-mortal plane, i.e., the Underworld, Atlantis, and the Void, are non-accessible without a guide.

Mother Tongue. As the bridge between the mortal world and the divine, they speak all languages mortals do, even the long dead ones.

Fact and Fiction. As the titan of divine law and bringer of good counsel to the Olympians, Themis has the ability to cut fact from fiction. She always knows when someone is being deceptive towards her or lying. This power does not give her knowledge of the actual truth. She just knows that it’s a lie.

Possession

Normal Daily Wear: Themis typically wears a loose fitting maxi dress. She values comfort but wants to accentuate her natural beauty.

Nightly Wear: She’ll wear whatever is necessary if the occasion calls for it.

Magical Artifacts/Weapons

Five-Pointed Crown. Themis has been known to don a five-pointed crown while being the ruler of divine law to the Olympians. The five points represent different attributes that she stands for. She views this old artifact with a heavy dose of painful nostalgia, because these attributes are something she is forgetting more and more as the days go on.

Historical Synopsis

Themis is the titan of divine law and was once the “lady of good counsel” to the Olympians, prosiding over ancient oracles. She was one of the first voices to the mortals to bring about order, law, and custom. Themis spoke with mankind and gave them a basis of which to form their society around morality and laws to bring about justice. [1]

Introduction written by Renee Christian

Having been the voice of divine law to the gods for eons, I have the ability to cut fact from fiction. I don’t just detect lies. I can feel them. It’s like a jolt of electricity. Not painful, but it stops me in my tracks. Reality becomes drained of its color, making everything poisoned with the pragmatism of black and white.

The thing about being able to cut fact from fiction is that you know every single time someone is lying to you. Every false “I love you,” every white lie when someone tells you how gorgeous you look, all the little things that are supposed to keep you in a cocoon of ignorant bliss, it all comes barreling towards you like a stampede of bulls.

I think when mortals imagine a power like this, they assume knowledge of the truth comes with it. Being able to differentiate between the truth and falsehoods, surely a Titan could squeeze reality out of any liar. This is the grandest fantasy of them all and one that would surely puzzle any mortal that thought long enough about my ability. When I hear a statement, a whisper, a proclamation, I’ll just know that it’s a lie. I’ll get that shocking sensation in my body, letting me know that whatever was just muttered by the being before me isn’t the truth.

Knowing every deception hurled at me and the thousands of fabrications made by god and mortal alike, it takes a heavy toll. Sometimes I feel like a plate spinner putting on a performance. I hoist these poles above me, and each lie is another plate that I have to spin. After a while, there are only so many slabs of porcelain you can juggle at once before they all come crashing down.

A cynical mind forges my thoughts, which in turn, can choke the beauty out of even the happiest of moments. I can let my guard down only long enough for the next lie to come my way. From experience, it doesn’t take too long.
